Orofacial Pain and TMJ Disorders

Orofacial pain specialists assess, diagnose and treat patients with complex, chronic pain in the mouth, jaws and face.

They treat pain that may result from an accident or trauma, or as a symptom of a disorder or disease, such as migraines or jaw pain.

At Carolina Dentistry, our two orofacial pain specialists both hold the status of diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Drs. Lim and Di Giosia, the only providers at Carolina Dentistry with training especially in orofacial pain, utilize patient history, pathology (lab work and imaging), and other assessments to assist the dental health care team with a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Working as a multidisciplinary team with a clinical psychologist, physical therapist and acupuncturist, the orofacial pain specialists manage complex pain disorders of the mouth, jaw, face, head and neck. They also coordinate the care of the patients with other specialists such as ENT, oral surgeons, neurologists, psychiatrist, rheumatologist, sleep physicians, anesthesiologists to serve our patients’ complete health needs.
